Black Friday has become one of the biggest shopping days on the calendar in South Africa, with a growing list of local retailers offering reduced prices on a range of products.
For 2022, Black Friday is set to fall on 25 November, with a number of shops and retailers moving back to the old format of one-day deals after extending specials to account for more controlled foot traffic during the Covid-19 pandemic in previous years.
Black Friday in South Africa differs from markets such as the US, as consumers have tighter budgets and less room to spend frivolously – thus, the day marks the time of year when South Africans can look for great deals on staples and essentials and stock up for the festive season ahead.
As with previous years, all major brands are participating in the sales rush, as well as smaller groups looking to get their slice of shoppers’ eagerness to spend.
Online retailers are also expected to offer a number of specials on ‘Cyber Monday’, which falls on 28 November 2022.
